McMullen, John


b. 1797, in Ireland; d. 1854. In 1850, McMullen made his living as a hotel keeper in Sangamon County, Illinois. On April 6, 1852, he was chairman of the Springfield Democratic convention. Later that year he became a stockholder in the Mechanics and Farmers Bank in Springfield, Illinois. In 1854, McMullen received a contract to grade a road in St. Louis, Missouri. While returning to Springfield from St. Louis, the stage in which he was riding overturned, and he died from injuries sustained in the accident.
